Colon Check
Although colorectal cancer is highly treatable in early stages, only 37% of eligible British Columbians currently get screened. In addition, follow-up and treatment can be inconsistent.
Colon Check® is a population-based screening program currently being piloted in three BC communities. Residents of the following areas are eligible:
- Penticton, Summerland and the South Okanagan (including Oliver, Osoyoos, Naramata, Okanagan Falls)
- Powell River, includes Lund, Blubber Bay, Gillies Bay, Savary
Island, Van Anda and Toba
- Vancouver residents with the following postal code prefixes: V6B, V6C, V6E, V6G, V6Z, V7X, V7Y and V5K, V5M and V5R.
By screening women and men ages 50 to 74 who do not currently have any symptoms more cases of colorectal cancer can be caught early and treated.
